It's out with the old and in with the new!

New Year's traditionally a time when we reflect upon the previous year's successes (and failures) and look forward, with a certain amount of optimism, to the coming year - and there's no reason to leave your wine rack out in the cold. Once you've given it a good dusting down its time to cheer it up with some great wines. We've put together a clutch of racy wines to get 2010 off to the best possible start. 

If you're looking for top value, South African red and white wines you'll have to go a long way (presumably the Cape itself) to beat these outstanding wines from family-owned Klein Zalze. Each wine is packed full of fruit flavour and are perfect served either on their own or with a wide variety of food.

An extremely supple Rioja expertly made by Gonzalo Ruiz Pastor at family owned Bodegas Sendero Royal which, since 1998, has been producing unctously flavoured, modern style Rioja which has to be tasted to be believed. For those smitten by the quality and flavour of Lacrimus we also offer it in Magnums for just £18.95 and for the seriously Rioja obsessed it also comes in Double Magnums at an eminently affordable £46.00!

Fast becoming one of the most ecologically aware wineries in the States, we’ve managed to secure a strictly limited amount of this award-winning organic red. Packed with an overgrown hedgerow of flavours – grab yours now ‘cos when it’s gone, it’s gone!

At last, sensibly priced red and white Californian wines of outstanding quality and flavour. Made by Larry Brooks who has enjoyed stints as winemaker at top Californian wine estates Acacia and Chalone – you’ll have to go a long way (presumably the Sunshine State itself) to find better flavour and quality for the price.

Domaine Lapierre Morgon 2008 £18.45

A recent Time magazine article dubbed Marcel Lapierre part of what is becoming known as the Morgon Gang of Four – a quartet of stunning winemakers intent on putting Beaujolais back on the winemaking map for producing outstanding red wines. This is a pesticide free non-sulphured wines that simply oozes red fruit flavours.

Domaine d’Ardhuy Nuits St. Georges 2006 £29.95

There’s been a bit of a ‘shake up’ at Domaine d’Ardhuy of late. New head winemaker Carel Voorhuis, who has spent time at BRL Hardy in Australia, now makes stunningly succulent red Burgundy that needs to be tasted to be believed.
